Ormylia is the oldest settlement in Halkidiki, as its presence in the area has been uninterrupted from the Neolithic Era to the present day. Its oldest name was Sermylia, and during the Middle Ages it was known as Ermylia or Ermilia.

Wild olives in the Greek region were already being collected during the Neolithic era; however, the place where the domestication of the olive tree is believed to have begun is Crete.

The botanical lifespan of an olive tree ranges from 300 to 600 years, while there are also olive trees that exceed 1,000 years of life.

As far as the climate of Ormylia is concerned, the main crop is the olive. Halkidiki olives stand out for their large size and their flesh-to-pit ratio. They have a characteristic green color and rich aromas.

Their rich flesh and flavor, slightly bitter and at the same time sweet,
make them unique and highly sought after due to their adaptation to the region’s distinctive climatic conditions.
